Hisar, April 12
A 14-year-old boy, Bhim Bahadur, was burnt to death when fire broke out in a four-storeyed restaurant, Ram Chaat Bhandar, in the Rajguru market in Hisar town this morning. He was also sleeping inside the building at the time of the incident
The police and fire authorities rushed to the spot and doused the flames after nearly three hours.
A Fire Department official said the building did not have a no objection certificate from the department and there were no fire safety measures in place to avoid and control the fire in case of a mishap. “The building even does not have appropriate staircases to reach upper floors to douse the fire,” he said.
There were 16 persons who were working in the restaurant who were asleep on the top floor of the building when the incident occurred. They managed to escape by jumping off the building.
Eyewitnesses said that some gas cylinders exploded in the fire, which led to the spread of the flames to about six more shops in the vicinity.
The police said nine vehicles of the Fire Brigade were rushed to the site. —
