The Haryana State Transport Department is set to run five electric air-conditioned buses in Rohtak city from January 26. Residents will get a free ride on these buses that day.

"Thousands of people from across the district come to the city everyday. Residents also face problems commuting from one place to another. The district administration had directed the Roadways authorities to start a city bus service, following which the facility has been provided," said Rohtak Deputy Commissioner Dhirendra Khadgata.

As per the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Transport Department prepared a plan to start the electric bus service in the city.

As per the plan, five electric buses will run in the city from January 26. The conductors will provide tickets to the passengers through e-ticketing machines. Washing bays and charging points have been established for the buses.

The new buses have displays on the front as well as rear windscreens. Announcements regarding the bus stops will also be made for the convenience of passengers.

These buses have low floors so that the passengers do not face any problem while boarding and deboarding. GPS features are also available in these buses.

Each bus has 46 seats and the travel fares will start from Rs 10 per passenger.

Haryana Roadways General Manager Bharat Bhushan Gogia said these buses would run from the Rohtak bus stand to the PGI via Raj Bhawan (Kishanpura), Sheela Bypass, Rivaaj Hotel, Reliance Mart, Swami Nityanand Public School, Jat Bhawan, Sector-1 main road, Rajiv Chowk (Delhi Bypass), MDU Gate No. 2, Sector-14, Jat College, CR Polytechnic and Power House after 15-minute intervals and would return to the bus stand via the same route.

"The running of electric buses will reduce air pollution, improve air quality and curb carbon emissions," said Gogia.
