Five sites fixed for holding rallies during poll in Y’nagar, Jagadhri

The district administration has fixed five sites for holding rallies for the Municipal Corporation elections in Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ).

These sites include HUDA ground in Sector18 in Jagadhari near Vishwa Bharti school; Tejali Sports Complex; new grain market, Jagadhari; City Centre, Yamunanagar and Dasehra ground in Yamunanagar.

At a press conference held in the district secretariat of Yamunanagar, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Parth Gupta said the elections for the post of Mayor and councillors in the MCYJ were to be held on March 2 and the counting of votes on March 12 at the ITI, Yamunanagar.

He said the EVM strong room had been made at the ITI, Yamunanagar.

“There are a total of 3,55,278 voters in MCYJ, out of which 1,89,290 are males and 1,65,986 are females,” said Gupta.

He said the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Jagadhari, Sonu Ram, was appointed as the Returning Officer for the MCYJ general election-2025.

He said for his assistance, District Revenue Officer, District Development and Panchayat Officer, Naib-Tehsildar of Jagadhari and Block Development and Panchayat Officer of Chhachhrauli had been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers.

He added that a total of 44 sector officers, 10 reserve sector officers and 16 nodal officers had been appointed in the district to conduct the election peacefully.

“There are 348 polling booths/stations in the MCYJ. A staff of 2,054 officers and employees have been deputed to conduct the civic elections peacefully,” said Gupta.

He said the post of Mayor in the MCYJ was reserved for women from the Scheduled Caste.

“A total of six candidates filed nominations for the post of Mayor. Out of which, two candidates withdrew their nominations. Now, only four candidates are in fray for the post of Mayor,” said Gupta.

He said there were a total of 22 wards in the MCYJ, out of which 12 wards were reserved for different categories.

He further said a total of 102 candidates filed nominations for the post of councillors in all 22 wards, out of which nomination of two candidates was rejected.

“Out of the nomination of the remaining 100 candidates, 13 candidates have withdrawn their nominations for the post of councillors,” said Gupta.
