The flood situation in Fatehabad’s Bhuna town turned more critical on the sixth day as several families from Chandan Nagar were forced to leave their homes following severe waterlogging. On Wednesday, families were seen leaving with their belongings in tractor-trailers, expressing anger at the administration and alleging neglect of poor localities in drainage efforts.

Locals claimed that while powerful areas saw quick drainage, poor colonies remained waterlogged. They warned they would not vote in future elections.

Meanwhile, Gurdwara Singh Sabha stepped in with relief efforts, rescuing nearly 200 families from low-lying areas and providing them with food and shelter.

To prevent further damage, the district administration, led by Zila Parishad CEO Suresh Kumar, began placing thousands of sandbags in front of homes and shops to block incoming rainwater. Residents and shopkeepers also joined hands with officials.

Over 600 homes in nine wards have been flooded. Temporary shelters have been set up in schools and public buildings, where food and basic supplies are being provided with support from NGOs.

In another blow, water entered a charitable diagnostic lab, damaging medical equipment and halting free services. Several government offices, schools, and more than 400 shops and warehouses also suffered damage due to flooding.

Meanwhile, DC Mandeep Kaur stayed at Bhuna overnight to monitor the drainage work after heavy rain caused flooding. She encouraged the teams working on the ground and assured the public that the administration was committed to their safety. “Don’t panic, the administration is with you,” she told residents.

SDM Rajesh Kumar, DMC Sanjay Bishnoi, and Public Health Department XEN Balwinder Nain said drainage work was going on with full force. They said they were supervising the situation and 25 pump sets were being used to speed up water removal from flooded areas.
