Flower festival inaugurated at HAU

“Flowers play a vital role in bringing joy to human life and enhancing the beauty of environment”, says Prof BR Kamboj, Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), inaugurated the three-day ‘Urban Farming Expo and Flower Festival 2025’, here on Friday.

The event is being organised at the Agri-Tourism Centre and Botanical Garden in the university in collaboration with the Social Welfare Society and Landscape Unit of the university.

Kamboj stressed the potential for exporting flowers and related crops and encouraged youth to diversify into flower, fruit and vegetable farming alongside traditional agriculture to enhance their income. He said modern techniques such as vertical farming and hydroponics, which allow cultivation of fruits and vegetables even in small spaces, without soil and with minimal water, should be adopted. These methods are suitable for home gardens, terraces, or balconies and can also be implemented indoors with LED lighting.

A notable attraction of the festival was the ‘Navgrah Vatika’, a garden designed with plants representing various celestial bodies, and a selfie point that captivated visitors. Hundreds of flower species were on display at the venue, drawing enthusiasm from students and the general public. School and college students participated in the rangoli art and mehndi competitions, while departmental exhibitions showcased university products. Kamboj also visited sections like the herbal garden, medicinal plants, and nurseries.
