Expressing concern over the recent deportation of Haryana youths from the US in handcuffs, Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday urged young people to avoid taking illegal routes to go abroad.

Khattar said the growing trend of youths using the “donkey route” was worrying and appealed to them to follow legal channels while seeking opportunities overseas. “This illegal way is neither good for the youth nor for their families,” he cautioned, adding that the Haryana Government has been assisting young people in finding lawful employment opportunities abroad.

The minister, who was in Karnal and interacted with the media at the PWD Rest House, also extended greetings on the occasion of Chhath Puja. He said the festival is dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, “who is considered the source of all energy and life,” and wished that it “brings happiness into everyone’s lives.”

Speaking on the state’s development, Khattar said the BJP government in Haryana, now in its third consecutive term, continues to focus on citizens’ welfare and ease of living through various public-oriented schemes.

On the issue of paddy procurement, he said recent heavy rainfall had affected the crop’s moisture levels and urged farmers to dry their produce properly before bringing it to the mandis. “This will ensure smooth and timely procurement operations,” he said.

Responding to a query about voter roll revisions, the Union Minister underlined the need to preserve the sanctity of the electoral process. “Only genuine voters should be allowed to cast their votes. If any ineligible or fake voter is found registered, their name should be removed,” he said, adding that the Election Commission must take suitable steps from time to time to ensure free and fair elections.
