Rohtak: A folk festival, ‘Rang Tarang’, and food festival, ‘Rang Vyanjan’ got to a fantastic start during the ongoing ‘Rang Mahotsav’ at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) on Wednesday. Chief guest Rohtak Lok Sabha MP Arvind Sharma said ‘Rang Mahotsav’ was a unique initiative of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Haryana. He said we all must propagate the message of ‘Bharat ek, Bhartiya ek’. MDU Vice Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh said the university would take steps to document the rich heritage of state. IG, Rohtak Range, Sandeep Khirwar was the guest of honour.
Declamation, folk song contests
Kaithal: Students of Indira Gandhi Mahila Mahavidyalya bagged the overall trophy of the inter-college competition by winning seven events. It was organised by the legal literacy cell at Choudhary Ishwar Singh Kanya Mahavidyalya in Dhand, Dadwana. Officiating principal Arti Garg said Sanjana won the essay-writing contest. While Nishu secured second spot in declamation, Surbhi and Kangna in folk song, Chesta and Aditi in PPT, and Anjali and Simran in something-out-of-nothing contest. In quiz, the team of Komal, Shweta and Mansi got the third place. Jyoti and Preet Kaur secured the third place in rangoli.
Seminar on livelihood security
Yamunanagar: A daylong inter-disciplinary national seminar on ‘Livelihood security in India: Issues and challenges’ under the aegis of department of sociology was organised at Maharaja Agrasen College, Jagadhri. “Livelihood security is a fundamental right and must be ensured to each citizen without discrimination,” PK Bajpai said while addressing the inaugural session as chairperson. Delivering the keynote address, Prof Neera Verma described livelihood as a dynamic concept that covers not only availability of food and employment but also right to life with dignity.
Workshop on stress management
Ambala: A workshop on stress management was organised for teachers of various institutions at St Joseph School. Speaker Anupma Sharma, retired principal of DAV Public School, Solan, said, “We should emotionally understand students. The emphasis must be laid on coping with stress by teachers.” School director Kiran Bannerjee, deputy director Ashima Kiran Bannerjee and principal Amita Sachdeva emphasised on stress-free education to students.
Literary festival concludes
Sonepat: The two-day cultural and literary festival — Prizma-2020 — organised jointly by the SRM University at Rajiv Gandhi Education City and Haryana Sahitya Akademi concluded on Tuesday. Chief guest J Chandrakumar, IAS, administration director of the SRM Group of Institutes, Chennai, said it was important and useful to participate in different kinds of cultural and literary events along with activities of studying and teaching for overall development.
Prof attends conference in US
Sonepat: Prof Satish Khasa of the DCR University of Science and Technology, Murthal, represented India at the ‘44th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites’ organised by the American Ceramics Society in Daytona Beach City FL in the US. There were 17 areas of ceramics and 900 participants from different countries attended the conference. Prof Khasa, who gave a talk on the ‘Role of glass ceramics in the development of future materials’, said such conferences provide a common platform to exchange and share research works.
Guest lecture on plant genomics
Hisar: A plant genomics workshop was organised at the College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University. In his address, chief guest Eugster Werner from the Department of Environmental Science, Zurich, Switzerland, emphasised that students should come up with small and cheap technologies that could be directly used as diagnostic tools for sustainable agriculture. He also explained the role of micro-climate in the overall expression of the crop. The 10-day workshop was led by SM Shivaraj from Laval University, Quebec, Canada.
Curtains on science conclave
Kurukshetra: The two-day science conclave on ‘Kindle youth towards basic sciences for human well-being’ concluded at Kurukshetra University on Wednesday. Prof SS Hundal from the department of zoology, PAU, Ludhiana, said animal cloning had played a significant role in improving quality and quantity of livestock in the country. Sandeep Sahajpal, physics professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, talked about the journey of the origin of universe, formation and evolution of galaxies, stars, chemical elements and eventually of sun, moon and planets.
