Former Karnal Mayor expresses resentment over not being fielded by BJP
Two days after the BJP announced its list of candidates, former Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta has voiced her dissatisfaction over the party’s ticket distribution process.
Gupta, a strong contender for the Karnal seat, expressed disappointment, claiming that merit was overlooked in the allocation of the ticket. She also called a meeting of her supporters on September 8 to take further decision. Party has fielded former media coordinator, Jagmohan Anand as its candidate from Karnal, which left her feeling betrayed.
“I have served the party for the last ten years, taking on every responsibility assigned to me with dedication. The public has continuously supported and blessed me throughout these years. For the past two days, my heart has been heavy. My supporters have been visiting my residence, expressing their willingness to stand by me. My decision will be taken by my supporters on September 8,” Gupta said while interacting with The Tribune.
Gupta was elected as councillor as an independent candidate in 2013, and later elected Mayor with the support of councillors. She joined the BJP before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. She was re-elected as Mayor in 2018 through direct elections.
“I have worked with dedication in all elections, but I was ignored. The ticket was not given on merit,” she said.
“Karnal constituents have given me lots of respect, for which I am always thankful to them. I will stand by whatever decision my supporters entrust me with and will carry out my responsibilities with complete sincerity,” she added.
