Former MLA Gogi slams cleanliness ranking criteria
Former Congress MLA and senior leader Shamsher Singh Gogi questioned the credibility of the national cleanliness rankings after Karnal was selected as one of the cleanest cities in the country and named for the presidential award.
He raised doubts about how the city qualified for such a recognition when the ground reality on cleanliness was different. Karnal was selected for the award last week and the award would be given by President Droupadi Murmu on July 17 in New Delhi.
“It is good that our city has been selected for the national award, but it should have been selected in the true manner. Receiving a cleanliness award is nothing but a mockery of the system as garbage lies unattended even outside his own house. It has been nearly three months since a sweeper last came to my street.
Even sanitation workers are frustrated because they are not being paid. How can they continue working without wages,” he pointed out.
He alleged that awarding Karnal was a “fake recognition” driven by political motives.
