Former PM remembered on 27th death anniversary
Former Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda was remembered on his 27th death anniversary, at Shri Gulzarilal Nanda Centre of Ethics, Philosophy, Museum and Library, Kurukshetra University, on Wednesday.
Politicians, officials from district administration, Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) and Kurukshetra University attended a programme held jointly by the KDB and the university.
A Gulzarilal Nanda Centre table calendar was released on the occasion. Former Minister of State Subhash Sudha said the contribution of former Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda in the development of Kurukshetra could never be forgotten. It was because of his efforts that the development of Kurukshetra got a new direction and it emerged as a tourism hub. Everyone should take a pledge that they would contribute to the development of Kurukshetra and it would help in making Kurukshetra a divine Kurukshetra. The state government has started various projects for the development of Kurukshetra.
Kurukshetra University Vice-Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva said the university administration wouldl try to celebrate the programmes related to former Prime Minister Gulzarilal Nanda on a large scale. The library at the memorial site will be upgraded as an e-library. Every person and institution of the society will be connected with this memorial site so that the ideals of Gulzarilal Nanda can be spread to the people.
KDB Honorary Secretary Upender Singhal recalled pivotal role played by Nanda in development of various religious spots in Kurukshetra and added that Nanda established KDB for the protection, promotion and development of the pilgrimages in Kurukshetra.
Professor Suchi Smita, director of Nanda Smarak Sthal, shared the details of the work being done by the university in the memory of former Prime Minister. Students from various schools, colleges and universities participated in different competitions.
Congress Thanesar MLA Ashok Arora said Gulzarilal Nanda had played a crucial role in the development of Kurukshetra. Various projects for the development of Tirthas under 48-Kos land were started by the former PM.
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh, Chairman of 48 Kos Tirtha Monitoring Committee Madan Mohan Chhabra and members of the KDB paid tributes to the former Prime Minister at the Nanda Memorial site.
