The name of a former resident doctor at a government medical college has surfaced in connection with the MBBS exam scam that came to light at Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences Rohtak (UHSR) in January.

The doctor in question is a graduate of the private medical college whose 24 students, along with 17 UHSR employees, were booked in February in connection with the scam.

“His name came up during the interrogation of one of the three accused arrested in February. At the time, the doctor was an MBBS student and, according to the accused’s statement, had approached him to help several students pass the exam. The deal was allegedly fixed at Rs 50,000 per answer sheet,” claimed sources.

According to the sources, another accused—while referring to a separate case—also admitted that answer sheets belonging to three students, including the doctor, had been smuggled out of the university's secrecy branch a few years ago with the assistance of a Class IV employee. The answer sheets were allegedly re-attempted with correct answers and resubmitted to ensure the students secured passing marks.

“Initially, the doctor had approached the racketeers to secure passing marks for himself when he was a student, but later, he began working as a middleman. After completing his MBBS degree, he served as a junior resident at a government medical college for a year,” the sources added.

A senior official at the government medical college, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the doctor had worked in his institution last year.

Meanwhile, social activist Deepak Rathee has urged the UHSR and the police to probe a critical allegation raised in a complaint filed by an MBBS student in January regarding the scam. The complaint had alleged that certain students were awarded passing marks under the pretext of rechecking, and the award list was also tampered with just before the declaration of results in exchange for hefty bribes.
