Palwal, February 26
The police have arrested four persons, including a middle aged man and his wife, in connection with selling their niece to two residents of Rajasthan.
According to police, the incident surfaced after a 13-year-old minor girl, hailing from Gorakhpur (UP), lodged a complaint with the police at Hodal last week that she was allegedly sold to two persons by her uncle and aunt against a payment of Rs 2.10 lakh.
The girl managed to escape from the clutches of the accused while she was being taken in a vehicle to Rajasthan via Palwal here.
The victim managed to flee on pretext of attending nature’s call near the NH-19 and reached the nearest police station. She told the police that she decided to run away after she learnt that she may be forced into prostitution by the persons who had bought her.
It is reported that the victim, who is an orphan, had been residing with his uncle in Gorakhpur. She was handed over to one Chhote Lal and Karambir hailing from Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan last week.
Hodal police station SHO Umar Mohammad said while the minor girl has been sent to a safe house, the police have arrested all the four accused, including the uncle and aunt of the complainant. The accused were remanded to judicial custody on Monday.
