On October 15, Satish told Rahul his interview was scheduled for October 16, in Panchkula. Rahul, along with Satish and another acquaintance Monu left for Panchkula. Satish introduced Rahul to Rajiv, who was also accompanying them along with the driver. They were carrying Rs 1,07,000 in cash. As they reached near Chandana Cut on NH-152, another car stopped in front of their vehicle. Four men stepped out, claiming to be Haryana Police personnel. They assaulted the victims and snatched Rs 1,07,000 from them. A team led by sub-inspector Ramesh Chand arrested four accused — Kuldeep, Mukesh, Rajiv and Satish of Barwala.

During the investigation, it was revealed Rajiv and Satish were aware of all details and had played a key role in plotting the robbery.
