Meanwhile, relatives of a couple of deportees also reached Ambala to meet them.

Rajesh Dahiya from Sonepat, who had reached Ambala City, said that his brother-in-law was among the deportees. The family had spent Rs 65 lakh to send Sandeep to America.

“Some land and jewellery were mortgaged and money was also arranged on interest to send Sandeep to America, but he has now been deported. He had gone in November and reached America in January. The agent had assured that Sandeep would be sent safely and a job would be arranged, besides making other arrangements,” he added.

SP Ambala Surinder Singh Bhoria said, “Four deportees belonged to Ambala. They don’t have any criminal background. So far, no complaint has been received from the deportees. Cases will be registered after getting the complaints.”

Meanwhile, the Kurukshetra police said three deportees belonged to Kurukshetra of which one Sahil Verma has been arrested as he was booked in a POCSO case in 2022. Gurjant has been sent to Karnal as the family presently resides in Taraori of Karnal. The third deportee, Robinpreet Singh, belongs to Pehowa.

Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij said, “It is the choice of a country to keep illegal migrants or not. But while deporting, human rights must be taken care of.”

About the issue of sending police vans to bring the deportees, Vij said, “I have been told that the Transport Department was not asked to provide any bus to bring the deportees from Punjab. I have told the officials that if more such deportees are to be brought and if buses are sought, then good buses should be sent because they are the residents of Haryana and not criminals. They should also be provided food during their journey.”
