The Engineering Wing of the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG) has revised and streamlined the boundaries of all four zones to ease the execution of civic works and better administrative control.

Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka issued the orders, the copies of which were sent to officials concerned on Tuesday.

Under the revised structure, the Zone 1 will now be comprised of eight wards, Zones 2 and 3 will have 10 wards each while Zone 4 will have eight wards.

These zones have been restructured in accordance with the demographic closeness of the wards without any overlapping of the areas. Previously, there were 35 wards, but in the recent civic body elections, the total number of wards were increased to 36, forcing the Engineering Wing to restructure the zones.

As per the orders, wards 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 have been included in the Zone 1; ward 5, 6, 7, 8, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33 and 34 in Zone 2; wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, 27, 31, 35 and 36 in Zone 3 and wards 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 19 and 20 in Zone 4.

Further, these zones have been divided into two divisions each for easy monitoring and accountability of the civic works. Each division will be headed by an Executive Engineer for the execution and monitoring of civic works.

Executive Engineer Sanjeev Kumar will be the Head of Division 1A of the Zone 1 while the Executive Engineer Ajay Panghal will be Head Division 1B of the Zone 1.

Similarly, Executive Engineer Sanjeev Kumar has also been made the Head of Division 2A and Division 2B of the Zone 2.

Executive Engineer Manoj Kumar will Head Division 3A and 3B of Zone 3 while Ajay Pangal will Head Division 4A and 4B of Zone 4.

Executive Engineers will be assisted by a team of Assistant Executive Engineers and Junior Engineers for carrying out developmental works at the ground level.

The revision of zones have been done after newly elected Councillors in the first House meeting highlighted concerns over many wards having been split between two zones. This led to confusion as each zone is operated by different officials, engineers and other staff members of the civic body. Thus, the residents were forced to approach officers of multiple zones to get their works done of a particular area. It often led to delay in the execution of works.

PRO of MCG Satbir Rohilla claimed that the revision of zones would ensure better functioning of the civic body to carry out development works.
