In the first incident, around 15 kanwarias from Gumthala Rao were performing parikrama (circumambulation of their village as per ritual) while aboard a utility vehicle, before setting out for Haridwar to collect the kanwar.

During the parikrama, the vehicle accidentally came in contact with a high-tension electricity wire, causing a fatal electric shock.

“Kuldeep and Harish were electrocuted on the spot. Two others, Rinku and Sumit, sustained burn injuries and were rushed to hospital,” said a local official.

In a separate mishap near Khandwa village, a collision occurred between a motorcycle and a utility vehicle, killing Devinder and Ajaypal, who were heading to Haridwar from Kaithal to bring the kanwar.

Both victims were working as masons in Kaithal.
