In a proactive move to promote women’s safety and empowerment, Sirsa’s women police teams visited National College and Women’s College in the city on Friday to educate girl students on self-defence, legal rights and available emergency support services.

Addressing the students, the officers emphasised that panic should never be the first response in a crisis. Instead, they encouraged the girls to stay strong, alert and confident when facing any difficult or threatening situation.

The session included detailed information about Dial 112, the Women’s Helpline (1091) and the various safety mechanisms and legal provisions designed to protect women. The officers advised the students to speak up and act decisively in any uncomfortable or inappropriate situation rather than remaining silent out of fear.

One of the key highlights of the programme was a live demonstration of self-defence techniques, where the police team showed how to respond effectively if someone attempts to harass or attack from behind. Techniques like grabbing the attacker’s hand and using quick reflex moves were demonstrated to instill confidence and a sense of preparedness among the students.

The officers underscored that every girl and woman should be fully aware of her rights and the resources available for her protection. They encouraged the students to pursue their dreams boldly, assuring them that the police and society are united in supporting their growth and well-being.

Students were informed that in case of an emergency, they can immediately contact Dial 112, the Women’s Helpline (1091) or the Police Control Room (100). The police also briefed them on the special units established in the district — such as the Women Police Station, Women PCRs and Women Cells — which are dedicated to preventing crimes against women and ensuring a safe environment. The interactive session was well-received, leaving students empowered and better prepared to handle difficult situations with courage and clarity.
