From Rohtak to global recognition: The journey of A flight of the lost dreamy bird

Made by SUPVA student, short-film has been screened at 19 film fests in 14 countries

A short-film made by Chaman Ramesh Kishan, a student of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA), Rohtak, has garnered international acclaim.

The film, A flight of the lost dreamy bird, has been screened at 19 film festivals in 14 countries across the globe in less than two years.

Based on a story by noted writer Vinod Kumar Shukla, the film has been written and directed by Chaman Ramesh Kishan, a final-year student at the direction department of DLC SUPVA.

The short film follows the journey of an ambitious young man who returns to his native village after 15 years, only to find that everything has changed.

His childhood memories of the rustic charm of his village are lost somewhere in its reformed landscape.

The film delves into nostalgia, change and the unfulfilled dreams of his late mother who always wanted him to fly.

Chaman and his film have won the Best Director award at the Watersprite Film Festival, Cambridge; Best Script award at National Students’ Film Festival, Mumbai; Best Director award at Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival and Honourable Mention at Varsity Film Expo, Zambia.

The film has been screened at several prominent film festivals across the world, including: Casaroto Ramsey Directing Awards, VJIK Film Festival, Russia; Cafoscari Film Festival, Venice;

British University International Student Film Festival, Dharamshala International Film Festival and Kuala Lumpur International Film Academy Awards.

It is now set to be screened at the Kuala Lumpur International Film Academy Awards in October 2025.

Chaman, who is set to complete his degree this year, aspires to establish himself as an independent filmmaker with plans to launch his own production house.

Dr Gunjan Malik, Registrar, DLC SUPVA, and Dr Mahesh, head, Faculty of Film and Television, felicitated Chaman for his achievements.

“Chaman’s success is a reflection of his immense talent nurtured at the university. His work exemplifies the creative brilliance and innovative storytelling we strive to cultivate in our students. His achievements on the global stage are a source of pride for the entire university,” said the Registrar.
