Fruit Expo ’25: Farmers learn methods to increase crop production & income

Day 2 of the two-day Fruit Expo-2025, held at the Fruit Excellence Centre in Mangiana on Wednesday, focused on teaching farmers advanced methods to improve crop production.

Farmers were introduced to modern techniques for growing varieties of pomegranates, guavas, dates, olives, peaches and pears.

They also learned about the benefits of using micro-irrigation systems, methods to boost productivity, and ways to increase their income through quality farming practices.

A total of 954 farmers registered for the event, visited the stalls, and learnt about the latest in horticultural technology. During the event, progressive farmers from Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar were honoured for their contributions to farming.

Haryana Seed Development Corporation Chairman Dev Kumar Sharma was the chief guest at the event.

He visited the high-tech greenhouse at the centre, where hybrid vegetable plants are being grown.

Sharma said these plants could play a key role in increasing farmers’ income.

He encouraged farmers to adopt the latest technology to make horticulture more productive and profitable.

Experts Dr Satbir Sharma, Dr Ramesh Kumar, Dr Shivani and Dr Rinku shared valuable insights with the participating farmers during the technical sessions, providing information on advanced farming techniques to enhance agricultural practices.

Yesterday, on Day 1, experts delved into cultivating lemon and preventing diseases.

Yashpal Khola, a progressive farmer from Rewari, shared his experiences of organic farming, inspiring others to explore sustainable practices.

The expo also covered the use of advanced fertilisers such as nano-urea and nano-DAP liquid, helping farmers improve crop productivity.

Around 1,000 farmers and women entrepreneurs from Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar attended the event, where 35 stalls showcased products related to farming, machinery and horticulture. Deputy Director Dr Satyaveer Sharma said the event also highlighted several farmer welfare schemes.

Attendees learnt about advanced techniques for growing crops like pomegranates, guavas and olives, as well as micro-irrigation systems designed to boost yields.

Agricultural experts Dr Vinita, Dr SP Singh from Sirsa, and Dr Sachin Sharma from IFFCO shared their knowledge on new farming techniques. A quiz competition focused on horticultural crops was also held at the event, with winners receiving prizes for their knowledge and enthusiasm.
