Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Haryana has boosted its capabilities in investigating snakebite death cases by providing establishing a dedicated facility and proactive training to its staff.

SIGNIFICANT STEP FORWARD

The establishment of a specialised facility at FSL in Haryana is a significant step forward in our investigative capabilities. It underscores our commitment to delivering justice in snakebite death cases. — Shatrujeet Kapur, DGP

This initiative, critical in the realm of forensic science, was a response to difficulties faced by the police in handling compensatory cases under a marketing board scheme for such fatalities.

ADGP OP Singh, Director of FSL, said, “The absence of a dedicated testing facility at FSL Madhuban for snakebite deaths has been a longstanding issue. We’re addressing this through proactive training and developing our toxicology division.”

In response, FSL Haryana embarked on a mission to enhance capabilities of its personnel. The training, facilitated by experts from FSL Rajasthan, equipped the Haryana team with advanced techniques in snake poison detection. This has led to establishing a dedicated facility within FSL Haryana for examining samples related to snakebite deaths.

DGP Shatrujeet Kapur said, “The establishment of a specialised facility at FSL Haryana is a significant step forward in our investigative capabilities. It underscores our commitment to delivering justice in snakebite death cases that have been challenging to process.”

A skin portion from the bite site is considered essential for effective testing. In cases where obtaining skin samples is not feasible, blood serum and urine samples becomes vital.
