Gallantry, distinguished service medals awarded to 17 army men at investiture ceremony
Chandigarh, February 24
The Army’s South-Western Command investiture ceremony was held at Hisar Military Station on Saturday, where 17 awards were conferred on army personnel for gallantry and distinguished service.
These included 10 Sena Medals for gallantry and seven Vishisht Seva Medals, a defence spokesperson said here. In addition, the Army Commander’s Appreciation was awarded to 15 units for their performance.
The recipients included 16 officers and one soldier. One gallantry award was presented posthumously to the next of kin of Major Vikas Bhambhu.
Presiding over the ceremony General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth congratulated all awardees for their gallantry and distinguished service. He also urged all ranks, veterans, civilians and their families to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation.
Lt Gen Seth later interacted with the award winners and their families and acknowledged their invaluable contribution in upholding the highest traditions of the Indian Army. NCC cadets and school children also witnessed the event.
The investiture ceremony is conducted once a year to confer various awards to personnel who have distinguished themselves by acts of individual gallantry and exceptional devotion to duty.
