The police claimed to have busted a gang involved in thefts at weddings and similar gatherings here with the arrest of three persons.
A spokesperson for the Police Department said they recently received a complaint stating that two unidentified youths stole a bag containing Rs 1.50 lakh and jewellery worth several lakhs from Hari Nagar locality here on November 15. In his complaint, the victim said he came from Ghaziabad for the wedding of his son at a banquet hall here.
The incident took place while he was removing some stains on his jacket near the Kheri Pul area here. One of the suspects approached him for help and engaged him in conversation. In the meantime, another suspect stole his bag from the vehicle and fled the spot.
The stolen bag included four gold bangles, a mangalsutra, a pendant and anklets meant for the wedding ceremony.
During investigation, the police arrested the suspects identified as Rajender, Vishal and Sawant. They originally hailed from Rajgarh district in MP and were residing in a shanty near the Kheri Pul area here.
The suspects have been sent to police remand for further investigations, said a police official. The accused confessed to engaging minor children to steal valuables from wedding functions or similar gatherings.
