The gang members conducted reconnaissance under the guise of begging and collecting junk, targeting houses that were locked. The police recovered two iron rods and two screwdrivers from their possession. The gang is believed to have committed over a dozen thefts in the past few months.
According to the police, the arrested have been identified as Vinod, alias Bagaria (31), Babulal, alias Sonu (23) and Mangal (23), all residents of Ajmer district in Rajasthan; Bunty (43), a resident of Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh; and Pannalal (55), a resident of Kekri district in Rajasthan. The crime unit team from DLF Phase-4, led by Inspector Sandeep Kumar, arrested Vinod, Babulal, Bunty and Mangal at Leisure Valley Park on Friday night, while Pannalal was arrested from his village, Ramilya, in Rajasthan the following night. Pannalal, a goldsmith, used to buy stolen jewellery from the gang.
Police investigations have revealed that all accused are members of the Bagaria gang, with Vinod, alias Bagaria, identified as the leader. The gang would choose a city, town, or colony to target, living in a nearby slum to avoid suspicion. They used to keep a woman to cook food, making it appear as though a family lived in the slum.
During the day, the gang members would scout the area under the pretence of asking for food. If they found a house that was locked or appeared unoccupied, they would break in during the day, with two accomplices standing guard outside. After the theft, one member would travel to Rajasthan to deliver the stolen goods to Pannalal. The gang recently burgled a house in Nathupur village on June 13.
“The gang members frequently changed locations, staying in one place for only 15 to 20 days. The accused have confessed to committing eight burglaries and thefts in different areas of Gurugram and two additional incidents in Delhi. Their criminal records show that more than a dozen cases of burglary, housebreaking and theft are registered against them in states like Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” said Sandeep Kumar, spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
