Gang of cyber fraudsters busted, four arrested

A team of Cyber police station in Rohtak district has cracked a case of fraud in the name of credit card with the arrest of four persons involved in the racket.

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, the SHO, Cyber police station, Inspector Kuldeep Singh said in a complaint, Balkishan of Mansarovar Colony stated that he had been defrauded.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the complainant had a credit card of Axis Bank. On August 22, a woman called up Balkishan and identified herself as Kashish, an official of Axis Bank. She told Balkishan that he had earned reward points, in lieu of which he could get some cashback and a gift voucher. The woman asked Balkishan to download a mobile application and fill his credit card details on it. Then, he got a code. On being asked by the woman, he told her the code. Following that, his phone was hacked and an amount of Rs 4.28 lakh was deducted from his account,” said the SHO.

The case was investigated by head constable Krishan, he said, adding that the cyber fraudsters were running a call centre in Delhi and had designed a fake mobile application of Axis Bank.

“Four members of the gang have been arrested in connection with the case. Fifteen SIM cards, 13 mobile phones, two laptops, Rs 5 lakh in cash and a dongle have been seized from their possession,” the SHO stated.
