Gangster held after exchange of fire

A team of the Special Task Force (STF) nabbed a criminal after a brief exchange of fire near the Pipli bus stand in Kurukshetra on Tuesday night.

STF in-charge Deepender Rana said the accused had been identified as Feroz Khan, a resident of Rajasthan, a sharp shooter who was among the attackers involved in the Katani Restaurant shootout in Mohali on Monday. The gang was there to attack Sidhu Moosewala’s close aide and Punjabi music producer Bunty Bains, but he escaped unhurt. An investigation is underway.

Was Involved in Mohali firing incident

  • The accused, Feroz, reportedly belongs to the Bambiha gang. There are multiple cases registered against him in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan

He was also allegedly involved in the murder of Rajan of Mehra village of Kurukshetra who was allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. His half-burnt body was recovered in Yamunanagar last month. The STF, Karnal, got an input about Feroz, following which the team conducted a raid but the accused started firing at the STF team in an attempt to flee.

Karnal STF in-charge Deepender Rana said, “There was an input that a person linked with the Rajan murder case was seen near the Pipli bus stand. He had been absconding in the case. The team reached the spot, but on seeing them, the accused started firing and attempted to flee. He fired around four or five rounds at the team, and in response and self-defence, three-four rounds were fired by the team, in which the accused suffered a bullet injury in his leg.”

“Two countrymade semi-automatic pistols and around six live rounds were recovered from his possession. There are multiple cases registered against him in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. He will be produced in a court and the STF will get his remand for further investigation,” he added.

SHO Baljeet Singh said Feroz was taken to the LNJP Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. A case has also been registered against him for firing at the STF. Rajan was shot dead and his half-burnt body was found near Gulabgarh village along the banks of the Western Yamuna Canal of Yamunanagar on January 29. He was allegedly murdered due to gang rivalry.

The case was transferred to the STF, Karnal. Feroz reportedly belongs to Bambiha Gang and he was allegedly among the shooters involved in the murder case.
