A team of the Gurugram Health Department has busted a racket conducting prenatal gender test of pregnant women after taking them to Delhi. In a joint raid with the Delhi Health Department, the team nabbed four suspects and handed them over to the Delhi Police.
The police have registered a case under various sections, including the PNDT Act, and started an investigation. A team of Delhi Health Department sealed the items recovered from the spot along with the ultrasound machine.
Gurugram Civil Surgeon Dr Virender Yadav said he received information that Delhi’s Asha worker Anita, along with Dr Neelam Walia in Delhi, was conducting prenatal gender test at Walia Maternity Centre in Sarita Vihar, Delhi. A team of officials laid a trap to catch the suspects red-handed.Anita asked for Rs 40,000 for a gender test and a deal was finalised. “On Monday, Anita reached Walia Maternity Centre with the fake customer and got an ultrasound done without any document, following which, the Health Department team conducted a raid,” Dr Yadav said.
Apart from Anita, Dr Neelam Walia, her husband Dushyant Walia and their son Rawal Walia were caught and handed over to Delhi Police.
