Get penalty waived for ads on shops: Panipat traders to MLA

Presidents of 48 markets associations under the banner of Samyukt Vyapar Mandal on Thursday met Panipat City MLA Pramod Vij after the Municipal Corporation (MC) gave hefty advertisement bills to them for the boards and flexes installed on their business establishments.

The traders raised the issue before Vij and he pacified the traders that he would discuss the issue with the government and would try to get relief for the traders.

The Municipal Corporation has served notices to over 200 shopkeepers and businessmen in the city for installing big advertisement boards and flexes on their business establishments. The notices seek amounts ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 20 lakh from the traders.

The MC has served notice under Section 122 of Haryana Municipal Corporation Act 1994 for erection and display of unauthorised advertisement/advertisement structure. As per the notice served, the MC has clearly directed the shopkeepers to remove their advertisement boards within seven days. Otherwise, penalty would be imposed. They have also been directed to deposit the penalty imposed upon the business establishments.

The traders association met MC Commissioner Dr Pankaj Yadav over this issue three days ago. Not getting any satisfactory reply, they decided to meet Pramod Vij on Thursday.

The traders’ associations said that such notices are being issued only in Panipat. The shopkeepers who had mounted their boards on their own shops should get relaxation for it. They also demanded that the heavy penalty imposed by the MC should be waived. The traders also raised the issue that the MC has registered cases against 20 shopkeepers in the city.

Vij assured the traders that the issue would be raised in the Vidhan Sabha session and he would hold a meeting with the MC Commissioner over it soon.

Insaar market president Gaurav Leekha, Ring Road market president Mohit Bajaj, mobile market Yash Hudia, Sushil Bharara, Pritpal Singh, Raju Malik, Nishant Soni, Sanjay Verma, Chander Sehgal, Sunil Wadhwa, Dharampal Chopra, Vinod Jain and others were present during the meeting.
