Gurugram civic body to make roads encroachment-free

The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Gurugram, in association with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), is set to soon launch a cleanliness drive to clean the main roads of the city, and beautify its surroundings by removing encroachments.

Additional Commissioner Mahavir Prasad, who recently presided over a meeting of MC and GMDA officials, stressed the need to increase green spaces along the key roads of the city, and sought active participation of area residents in maintaining public spaces and improving the environment.

The MC had initiated efforts to make Gurugram cleaner and more beautiful, he added, stating that the joint efforts of the MC and the GMDA could give better results in sustainable development, and ensure that the city remained clean, beautiful and environmentally friendly. The Additional Commissioner asked the officials of both bodies to increase greenery on the green belts and dividers of roads.

“The authorities concerned must promptly pick up horticultural waste and all other types of debris from along the roads and remove encroachments,” he said. He added that cleanliness should not be limited to regular cleaning, but should also help to make the city beautiful. After removing encroachments and cleaning public spaces, the MC plans to plant various types of trees and shrubs in the monsoons.
