The police have booked a student of Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST), Murthal, for allegedly misbehaving and assaulting a girl student of his own class. The incident reportedly took place on August 18 when the complainant had gone to the university to collect her mark sheets.
In her complaint to Murthal police, the victim alleged that her classmate, identified as Sahil, began misbehaving with her and hurled abuses. “When I opposed him, Sahil started beating me. My clothes got torn and he also kicked me. When I shouted for help, he fled from the spot,” she said. She further alleged that the accused had made indecent remarks about her earlier as well.
Acting on her complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 296, 115(2), 74 and 76 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
DCRUST Vice-Chancellor Shree Prakash Singh said: “The matter came to my knowledge and a probe into the incident has been ordered.”
ASI Ravinder Singh, spokesperson of Sonepat police, said, “The accused has not been arrested so far. Police teams are conducting raids to nab him. He will be arrested soon.”
