Gurugram, March 1
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) are planning to strengthen bus services in their respective cities.
GMDA and FMDA Chief Executive Officer A Sreenivas today chaired a meeting with officers of both departments to discuss a comprehensive revamp of the public transport system in Gurugram and Faridabad. “We aim to improve accessibility for citizens by establishing a widespread and robust network of city buses,” said Sreenivas.
He said the expansion of bus fleet, development of adequate infrastructure such as bus depots and terminals to facilitate seamless bus services, integration with other public transport services such as the Metro and adopting smart ticketing solutions were among their key focus areas.
Presently, 150 buses of GMCBL ply in Gurugram and 50 in Faridabad. Also 100 electric buses each are being allotted to both the cities under the PM e-Bus Seva Scheme. These electric buses are expected to be added to the fleet by October this year. The mobility division has submitted that 1,025 buses will be required in Gurugram and 595 buses in Faridabad by 2031.
The GMDA CEO said integrated connectivity of city bus services with the upcoming Metro corridor in Gurugram would be instrumental in the overall uplift of the public transport services in the city.
Planning for enhancing road infrastructure via development of underpasses, flyovers, upgradation of roads, provision of smart parking, etc. were also discussed in the meeting.
