Sirsa, August 16
Dhawal Kanda, son of BJP leader Gobind Kanda and nephew of Sirsa MLA Gopal Kanda, will contest the upcoming election from the Rania constituency on a Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) ticket. The announcement was made by Gobind Kanda. Addressing party workers from the Rania constituency at the MDLR office located on the Rania Road, Gobind confirmed that while he was with the BJP and would contest from any constituency assigned by the party, his son Dhawal would contest from Rania under the HLP banner.
Gobind said Gopal Kanda, the current Sirsa MLA and HLP chief, would inaugurate the HLP office at Rania Anaj Mandi on August 18. He praised his brother Gopal, noting that he was the only MLA with a 24-hour open office and emphasised that the Kanda family was in politics not for personal gain but to serve the public.
Earlier, Gobind had expressed his desire to contest from Fatehabad on BJP ticket. However, it is believed that he will not run against the current cabinet minister Ranjeet Singh Chautala from Rania, who defeated Gobind Kanda in the 2019 assembly elections. Gobind had also faced defeat in the 2022 Ellenabad by-election against INLD’s Abhay Chautala.
Recently, during his visit to Sirsa, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had mentioned at a meeting with Gopal Kanda that the state would contest the upcoming Assembly elections in alliance with Kanda’s HLP (Haryana Lokhit Party) and win all seats in Sirsa. The HLP is a coalition partner of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) and it is expected that the BJP-HLP alliance will contest from the five Assembly seats in Sirsa. It is also confirmed that the current Cabinet minister and BJP leader Ranjit Singh Chautala will contest from Rania again.
