In an equally heartbreaking and heart-warming incident from Sirsa, a newborn girl was found abandoned in some bushes, but rescued in time by one Gulshan, who now wants to raise her as her own daughter.

On Wednesday evening, Gulshan went out to throw garbage near Hanjira Road, close to the government school in Nathusari Kalan village. She suddenly heard a baby crying. Upon inspection, she saw a newborn girl wrapped in cloth, left alone in the bushes.

“I saw her crying, and, without thinking, I picked her up. Her breathing was weak, but she was alive,” said Gulshan.

She immediately informed nearby villagers, and they called an ambulance. The baby was rushed to the Community Health Centre in Nathusari Chopta. Doctors confirmed she was only a day old, with normal vitals, though a bit underweight.

After initial treatment, she was referred to the Sirsa Civil Hospital for further care.

Dr Surender Singh, who examined the baby, said the umbilical cord was still attached to the newborn when she was brought in, and was cut at the hospital.

While the community has been left shocked by the inhumane act of abandonment, Gulshan has emerged as a symbol of hope.

A mother to two sons, she now wants to adopt the baby girl. “God sent her to me. I feel like she’s already mine,” she said with tears in her eyes.

The police have registered a case against unknown persons, and started an investigation to find the child’s biological parents. Nathusari Chopta SHO Radheshyam said, “We are looking into the matter seriously.”
