Senior Congress leader and former MLA Shamsher Singh Gogi has urged the party to contest upcoming civic body elections on the Congress symbol, irrespective of the results. He emphasised that this decision would energise party workers and motivate leaders to work towards victory. Gogi made these remarks in response to questions from mediapersons at his residence, where he also called for concerted efforts to secure all civic body head and councillor seats.
“We have to contest civic body elections on the party symbol. This decision will energise party workers and leaders. Our senior leaders should reach out to party workers to motivate them for the civic body elections,” said Gogi. He further stressed the need for thorough preparation for the elections, likely to be held within two months.
Highlighting the importance of teamwork, he said, “We need to assign responsibilities and work hard as a team. The BJP is preparing, and if we do not open a front against them, how will we succeed? Workers are unsure about what to do or how to fight. Senior leaders need to step forward.”
Gogi also called for the immediate establishment of an organisational structure, arguing that the lack of such a structure disheartens party workers. “If the organisation does not have a structure, the workers are the most disheartened. But if it is formed, the workers will make their best effort and ultimately lead the charge,” he said.
When asked about his potential willingness to serve as the party’s state president, Gogi expressed his readiness to take on any role. “I can take whatever responsibility the party assigns me, whether as state president or sweeping the floor,” he stated.
Regarding the recent halt of the district coordinators’ list by the party leadership, Gogi pointed to a lack of coordination between senior leaders as a major issue for the party. He did not shy away from criticising the current state of affairs within the party.
On the topic of the recent shifting of Rohingya Muslims from Haryana, Gogi labelled it as vote-bank politics and accused certain entities of dividing society. He also targeted the RSS, accusing them of dishonouring India’s true heroes.
“Photos of Shaheed Bhagat Singh are nowhere to be seen in the offices of BJP and RSS. Those who were loyal to the British are now honoured in their offices, while photos of Bhagat Singh are absent. They do not honour India’s true heroes like Bhagat Singh but glorify those who sought mercy from the British,” he said.
