Governor inaugurates 73rd All India Police Volleyball Cluster in Madhuban

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated the 73rd All India Police Volleyball Cluster Tournament 2024-25 at Vachher Stadium, Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban. The event features volleyball and sepak takraw competitions for both men and women, with 1,088 players, including 791 men, 297 women and 65 technical officials, competing from 49 men’s and 28 women’s teams.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Dattatreya emphasised the police force’s vital role in national security and lauded Haryana’s rich sports culture. “Haryana has always led in sports and our police personnel have played a key role in this success. Many officers have brought national and international glory. I commend Haryana Police for hosting such tournaments that uplift sports and enhance the state’s reputation,” he said.

The Governor noted that Haryana Police has promoted sports for decades, with 11 talented officers recently honoured by President Droupadi Murmu. He also highlighted the discipline and resilience of police personnel, urging youth to draw inspiration from their dedication.

Welcoming the Governor, Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur acknowledged the increasing challenges in policing, emphasising that despite tough duties, officers excel in sports. “These games began in 1951 in Cuttack and Haryana Armed Police Madhuban has hosted 18 editions so far,” he added.

Highlighting Haryana Police’s sporting legacy, he stated that its athletes have won four Padma Shri awards, three Khel Ratna awards, two Dronacharya awards and 26 Arjuna awards, along with two Olympic medals, 22 Asian Games medals, 22 Commonwealth Games medals and 113 in international events.
