Haryana Govt misled House on urea crunch: Kumari Selja

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Kumari Selja.

Chandigarh, December 30

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Kumari Selja today said the government had misled the entire House in the Assembly on the issue of shortage of fertilisers in the state. She said the Agriculture Minister had claimed that there was no shortage of urea, but even today there is a shortage and farmers are wandering here and there for it.

Despite severe cold, farmers have to reach mandi early morning to make arrangements for urea, she said.

In a statement, Selja said as soon as the paddy crop reaches market, farmers start preparing for wheat crop. With the amount received after selling paddy, they start the process of buying seeds and fertilisers.

“In such a situation, the fertiliser should have been arranged in the month of October, but even after three months, the farmers have not received it.”

Selja said in order to hide its shortcomings, the anti-farmer BJP-JJP alliance government had put forth the minister and asked him to make a statement in the Assembly that there was no shortage. Now, the minister and the state government should issue a White Paper regarding the shortage of urea. — TNS
