The Gurugram team of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) have arrested the Annual Survey Industry’s Superintending Officer, working under the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Government of India, red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Faridabad. He had demanded the money in exchange for the filing of notice and processing of his return.

According to the ACB, the team on Friday raided the CGO Complex office of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation in Faridabad and caught the officer, Rajesh Kumar, red-handed. An FIR was registered at ACB, Faridabad.

The accused had demanded a bribe from the complainant in return for filing notice for the schedule of investigation phase-II of the Annual Survey of Service Sector Enterprises and processing his return. The complainant added that two notices were issued to him by Rajesh on December 16 and December 30. This required submission of returns for the schedule of investigation phase-II under the Annual Survey of Service Sector Industries. The officer warned the complainant that if he did not pay the bribe, he would be fined under the Statistics Collection Act.

A spokesperson of the ACB said while investigating the case, a strategy was prepared to arrest the accused.

“The ACB is investigating the case while keeping all aspects in mind. The entire action was taken with complete transparency in front of the witnesses. A case has been registered against the accused and we are questioning him,” the spokesperson added.
