Govt releases Rs 65.67 cr for bajra buying in Jhajjar dist

While many farmers in Jhajjar district are still awaiting payment for bajra procured by government agencies, official records indicate that over Rs 65.67 crore has been released so far to those who sold their crop to the state.

The Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (HAFED) and Haryana State Warehouse Corporation (HSWC) have been purchasing bajra at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,625 per quintal. According to the regulations, payments are to be made within 72 hours of the bajra being delivered to the warehouses.

"As of today, a total payment of Rs 83.75 crore was due in Jhajjar district for bajra procured from 11,720 farmers," sources revealed. "This includes 169 farmers from Badli, 103 from Bahadurgarh, 541 from Beri, 1,510 from Dhakla, 4,816 from Matanhel, and 4,581 from Jhajjar grain markets."

Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner Shakti Singh stated that a total of 34,363 metric tonnes (MT) of bajra had been recorded as arriving in the district. Of this, 31,908 MT has been procured by government agencies, and 83% of the procured bajra has already been lifted from the mandis.

"Employees from the Marketing Board, Agriculture Department, and Revenue Department are stationed at each grain market to address farmers' complaints on the spot, with police personnel deployed for security. Special arrangements have also been made to ensure access to potable water, electricity, prompt payment, and smooth lifting of bajra," said the Deputy Commissioner.

The HSWC has so far procured 12,516 MT of bajra in Jhajjar, while HAFED has purchased 607 MT from Badli, 175 MT from Bahadurgarh, 1,411 MT from Beri, 4,764 MT from Dhakla, and 12,435 MT from the Matanhel grain market.

Ashok Sharma, the District Food and Supplies Controller, confirmed that payments for the procured bajra were being made within the stipulated time. "A total of 26,515 MT of bajra has been lifted from the mandis so far," Sharma added.
