Govt staff organise protest over old pension scheme

Government employees from across the state under the banner of Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh on Tuesday attended a protest rally here demanding restoration of the old pension scheme (OPS).

The protestors marched towards the mini secretariat from Fountain Park in Sector 12 and submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Anubhav Mehta. The SDM assured them of a meeting with the CM on December 25.

Mahasangh president Vishwanath Sharma said under the OPS, the central and state governments were giving pensions of Rs 80,000 to Rs 4 lakh per month to ministers, MPs and MLAs, while government employees were getting pension of Rs 1,200 to Rs 3,000 under the new pension scheme.

Notably, Khattar represents the Karnal constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
