Govt to inject Rs 4,827 crore to boost road infra

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today launched the Pradeshik Sadak Utthan Pariyojna (Regional Road Upgradation Project), aimed at strengthening the road infrastructure.

Under this initiative, 4,227 roads covering 9,410 km will be repaired and upgraded at a cost of Rs 4,827 crore this fiscal. The CM described the launch as a “golden chapter” in Haryana’s infrastructure development. He said the project would be a milestone in building a developed India and Haryana. It would bridge the gap between rural and urban areas, enhance connectivity and further boost the state’s economic, social and commercial growth, said Saini, adding that repair works on 410 roads had been initiated.

The CM stated that the government was committed to ensuring accountability in infrastructure construction. He warned that strict action would be taken against contractors and officials found negligent, stressing that public funds must be utilised solely for public benefit.

“The project will lower transportation costs, reduce pollution, save fuel and give a boost to both industry and agriculture,” he added.

While highlighting the state’s progress in road and railway infrastructure over the past 11 years, the CM said 43,703 km of roads had been improved at a cost of Rs 28,651 crore and 2,417 km of new roads had been constructed at a cost of Rs 2,534 crore. Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, an additional 2,432 km of roads had been built at a cost of Rs 1,077 crore.

He pointed out that 97 railway overbridges and underpasses had been constructed at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore in the past 11 years. The CM said 21 new national highways had been approved in Haryana, with 12 already completed. Upon their completion, every district in the state would have national highway connectivity. He said 27 toll barriers had been removed to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

Public Works Minister Ranbir Gangwa said under this initiative, all roads managed by the PWD, Marketing Board, HSVP, HSIIDC and others would be upgraded.
