This was stated by Transport Minister Anil Vij during a surprise visit to the bus stand on Wednesday.
He said: “The city will also get a new bus stand soon. The Transport Department is preparing a detailed project report in this regard. Construction work will begin after the approval from the government”.
The minister said the state-of-the-art ultramodern bus stand would have facilities such as shopping complex, waiting rooms, toilets, clean drinking water and proper waste management.
He said the department would soon purchase 750 new buses, which would be a milestone in strengthening the public transport system in the state.
The Minister also asked Pradeep Kumar, General Manager of the Roadways Depot, to ensure that the bus stand was maintained and cleaned regularly.
He also ordered to reopen the closed women’s restrooms. He asked the local SHO present on the spot to keep an eye on the plying of unauthorised buses from outside the bus stand and remove all encroachments.
Anil Vij said discussions were on with the Tourism Department to set up stalls at the bus stand in order to provide quality food to passengers at affordable rates.
