Gurugram, Faridabad to get custom-made sanitation plans: Vipul Goel
Meets 42 waste management vendors to fix crises in twin cities
The Haryana Urban Local Bodies will work out fresh and decentralised plans, with conventional sanitation plans failing in Gurugram and Faridabad. Targeting Gurugram, Faridabad and Manesar, these plans will be custom-made and will decentralise waste management.
Gurugram has been under solid waste exigency for over a year now. The industrial block of Manesar, despite having a separate corporation, also struggles with sanitation crises. While no exigency has been declared in Faridabad, it also tops the state in sanitation woes.
State Urban Local Bodies Vipul Goel today held a meeting with 42 solid waste management vendors across the country and sought fresh plans for the twin cities. He said separate 'request for proposal' documents (RFPs) would be prepared for these cities.
“We cannot deal with Gurugram and Faridabad like other cities of the state. The waste generation is way more here. The twin NCR cities need a different approach, which is more effective and yields results quickly. We are meeting the best players to make separate plans for the cities. Even in Gurugram, Manesar has its own solid waste management profile and will be dealt subjectively. We will solve the crises within the next six months,” he claimed while speaking to 'The Tribune'.
Local vendors highlighted how the corporations of both the cities were notorious for non-payments of bills. Goel assured that there will be no delays in payments under the projects. He said the government would provide hand-holding support at every stage and would incorporate valuable suggestions provided by the agencies in the RFPs.
Gurugram currently generates 1,100-1,200 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) daily, with projections indicating a continued increase. In addition to this, the city generates over 1,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste, over 50,000 tonnes of e-waste, and 1.5 tonnes of bio-medical waste.
