Gurugram gears up for mega New Year celebrations
As the Delhi-NCR gears up for New Year celebrations, the party capital Gurugram is all set to make big bucks on the last day. From private parties in farmhouses of Bilaspur, concerts and special carnivals in premium hotels, themed dinners in restaurants to belly dancers in BYOB’s and special discount offers at swanky vends, the city has a full platter for party-goers who will be coming not just from the Delhi-NCR but even areas like Punjab, UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan.
A projection by various agencies peg New Year celebrations at a minimum of Rs 50 crore where even the state would be making huge revenue. According to the hotels' association, all major hotels are sold out and hosting special functions ranging from live concerts to specially themed parties like snow carnivals. Tickets, which range from Rs 3,000 to Rs 25,000 per couple, are sold out as unlimited liquor is being offered as part of celebrations.
“Gurugram is an important destination for New year celebrations. Not just corporates but even industrialists from all neighboring state converge on the city to celebrate the eve. Currently, all major five-star hotels are booked and events are sold out. With pollution levels in control this year, outdoor poolside events are also drawing major crowds in hotels. We expect a huge business on the last night of the year,” said an office-bearer of the hotels' association.
Similarly, restaurants and malls are too geared up for mega night. The restaurants' association is expecting over Rs 10 crore income in various restaurants and pubs. BYOB's and private farmhouses, where special ‘exclusive’ events are being organised, would account for maximum liquor consumption, said a senior Excise official.
“ According to our inputs, we have New Year parties in over 1,500 farmhouses in Gurugram, maximum in Bilaspur and Raisina Hill areas. The sale of liquor is expected to touch a record high on the day,” said the official. The police, meanwhile, have issued an advisory asking people to enjoy but adhere to laws. Special advisory against illegal gambling, rave parties and "car o bar" has been issued.
“People should enjoy to the fullest, but adhere to law. We will have zero tolerance to any nuisance, ruckus, drunken driving, gambling or drugs. Over 2,000 police personnel will be deployed across Gurugram to ensure safe celeberations,” said an official spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
