With the city submerging for the third time in the past 10 days, the Gurugram multiple civic authorities have failed yet another monsoon challenge. A few hours of rain had left almost the entire city waterlogged today and residents were a harried lot. Flash floods were witnessed across the city, leaving underpasses, roads and houses under water.

The rainwater also accumulated at the offices of the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram (MCG), and the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).

Barring a few areas, almost the entire city was under 4 ft of water. The worst hit areas include the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway service lane near Jharsa Chowk, Iffco Chowk, Narsinghpur, Bilaspur, Sohna Road, Basai Chowk, Sohna Chowk, Sectors 4,7 and 9, Hanuman Chowk, Dhankot, Fazilpur Chowk, Vatika Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Baghtawar Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, Kapashera border, Udyog Vihar, Jocbpura, Sadar Bazar, Mahavir Chowk, Dundahera, Bhimgarh Kheri, near the Medanta underpass and Jawala Mill, Wazirabad road, Sanjay Gram Road, Sheetla Mata Road, Old Delhi Road, Palam Vihar Road, Kartepuri Chowk Signature Tower Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk.

While the authorities blamed it on heavy rainfall as the main reason for waterlogging, the residents accused the authorities of being ill-prepared. While the water drained within sometime in the old city, it was chaos in New Gurugram and the residents of societies and condominiums were the worst hit. The waterlogged parkings and lifts had left the residents confined to their homes and power cuts for 8 hours in a majority of areas added to their woes.

“It is the third time that our society has got waterlogged. It’s an annual routine. The civic authorities plan for months but during the monsoon all their tall claims are washed away. People are stuck in their flats due to waterlogging. I called up people to drain out the rainwater with pumps but all in vain. There is no electricity also,” said Chandveer Yadav of Meghdoot apartments in Sector 10.

“We have three civic authorities with a fleet of most efficient officials but at the end of day despite spending several crores, they cannot deal with the monsoon challenges. The situation is worse in New Gurugram, which shows the true picture of actually what is happening here,” said Praveen Malik of sare Homes Society.

The residents took to social media to vent out their anger seeking Home Minister Anil Vij’s intervention to improve the situation. Meanwhile, DC Yash Garg has asked all officials concerned to submit a report by the weekend.
