The police have dismantled 80 criminal gangs and arrested 200 members so far this year, seizing over Rs 3 crore in cash and solving 406 cases. The largest number of gangs busted were involved in vehicle theft, with 46 such gangs identified. Simple theft gangs ranked second with 14 groups, while six gangs each were involved in burglary and snatching.
Vehicle theft remains a persistent issue in Gurugram, with over 10 vehicles stolen daily. Despite efforts, the police have struggled to curb this rampant crime. Similarly, incidents of snatching and burglary are reported daily across various parts of the city.
In total, police arrested 102 members from 46 vehicle lifter gangs, seizing Rs 2.91 crore and solving 255 cases of vehicle theft. Another 40 members from 14 simple theft gangs were arrested, with Rs 3.16 crore recovered. The police also detained 19 individuals from six burglary gangs involved in 30 cases, seizing Rs 3.34 crore. Additionally, 13 members of six snatching gangs were arrested, with Rs 255,000 recovered.
Other arrests included 11 members of three robbery gangs, who were linked to 10 cases and had Rs 695,000 in their possession. The police also cracked two ATM fraud gangs, apprehending four members and seizing Rs 101,000. Furthermore, two dacoity suspects and seven murder suspects were arrested.
“We have arrested 200 gang members from 80 different gangs between January 1 and December 13 this year, recovering a total of Rs 36.79 crore,” said a police spokesperson.
