Gurugram police nabbed an interstate criminal, who was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, after a brief encounter. The accused sustained a bullet wound on his leg during the encounter and was subsequently arrested for being involved in cases of theft and robbery.

A bike, a country-made pistol, and eight empty bullet shells were recovered from the spot. The arrested accused was admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment, and an FIR was registered at the Manesar police station.

According to police officials, sub-inspector Lalit Kumar, incharge of the crime unit, Manesar, received a tip-off about a rewarded criminal riding a bike from Panchgaon towards Gurugram, carrying illegal weapons. Acting on the information, a barricade was set up by a police team near polytechnic college, Manesar, on NH-48.

After some time, a bike was seen coming towards the checkpoint. When the police team signalled the bike rider to stop, the rider tried to flee, due to which the bike fell, and the accused started running while opening fire at the police officials. In retaliatory action, the police officials also opened fire on the accused, and one bullet hit his leg. The accused fell on the ground after being shot and was nabbed by the police team. A bullet fired by the accused also hit the bulletproof jacket of a police official during the crossfire. The accused was identified as Aleem (30), a resident of Sahasan village in Rajasthan. The injured was rushed to a hospital, where he is being treated.

“A total of eight rounds were fired during the encounter, out of which six were fired by the accused and two by the police. The accused had committed a robbery in 2024 in the Sector 65 police station area in which he was absconding. The Gurugram police had also announced a reward of Rs 20,000 on him. It was revealed that 22 cases were registered against him in connection to several incidents of theft and robbery in Gurugram, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The accused is under treatment and will be arrested after being discharged from the hospital,” said a spokesperson for the Gurugram police.
