Despite repeated warnings and notices, several prominent pubs in Gurugram’s bustling Sector 29 continue to violate environmental regulations. According to the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), electricity has been disconnected for multiple non-compliant outlets including Factory Pub (SCO 23), Limbo (SCO 30) and Intro Pub (SCO 26). Yet, these establishments reportedly continue to operate using banned diesel generator sets.

A major violation cited is the lack of a mandatory "Consent to Operate" (CTO) from the HSPCB — a basic legal requirement for commercial operations.

Senior officials from the HSPCB confirmed that power disconnection was a final step taken after repeated non-compliance. “The continued and unauthorised use of diesel gensets not only pumps harmful particulate matter and noxious gases directly into the air, contributing to Gurugram's already poor air quality, but also reflects a complete and utter disregard for established environmental law and the well-being of residents,” said Akansha Tanwar, Regional Officer, HSPCB.

“We have already issued stern notices, proceeded with power disconnections, and are fully prepared to impose heavy financial penalties, escalating to legal action if necessary. Any outlet found operating despite these measures is doing so illegally and will face the most stringent action permissible under law,” she added.

The issue has sparked concern among residents and environmental groups, who see it as part of a larger failure in enforcing sustainable practices. Authorities have now pledged stricter monitoring and faster enforcement. As Gurugram continues to expand, the standoff between commercial interests and environmental accountability in Sector 29 underscores a critical urban governance challenge.
