Harassed by neighbour, Bhiwani girl set self ablaze, critical
A 17-year-old girl on Friday set herself on fire after allegedly being harassed by a neighbour at a village in Bawani Khera of Bhiwani.
The girl was rushed to the PGIMS, Rohtak, where she is stated to be in a critical condition. The police have registered a case in this connection on the statement of the girl's brother.
The victim’s brother said in the statement that he and his sister had been living in the village after the death of their parents. He said a youth from the neighborhood had been harassing and hounding his sister regularly while she went about her daily activities. Distressed due to harassment, and unable to bear the situation any longer, she allegedly attempted the end her life.
The police said the victim poured oil and set herself on fire. However, her family instantly tried to douse the blaze but she had suffered severe burns. Her family immediately informed the police about the tragic incident.
Bawani Khera police station SHO Satish Kumar said he rushed to the scene upon receiving the information. A case was registered against the accused based on the complaint. The girl was initially taken to the Bhiwani Civil Hospital. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to PGIMS, Rohtak, for advanced care. The SHO said her condition remained critical.
