Mahendragarh, February 25
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today flagged off 70 livestock ambulances (valued at Rs 11.20 crore) for various districts across the state, besides launching a toll-free 24×7 veterinary hospital call centre.
Speaking on the second day of the 40th State Livestock Exhibition, the
CM emphasised that Haryana holds a distinctive position not only nationally, but also internationally, due to its livestock. Due to that uniqueness, Haryana stood as the only state where the marketing of A-2 pasteurised milk from indigenous cows had begun, he said.
He spoke about the capital required for purchasing and raising animals. To address that issue, Livestock Kisan Credit Cards were being issued to livestock rearers to meet their capital requirements. Banks had already approved 1.56 lakh Livestock Kisan Credit Cards, with more than Rs 2,000 crore disbursed to cattle rearers in the state, he added. “The government has launched a special scheme for financial assistance to cattle rearers besides animal insurance. Around 10.42 lakh animals have been insured in the state under the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Collective Livestock Insurance Scheme. Under the scheme, owners can get insurance cover for any big animal for only Rs 100 to Rs 300 and a small animal for Rs 25. The animals belonging to Scheduled Caste cattle owners are insured free of cost,” the CM said.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Jai Prakash Dalal said the exhibition was the first of its kind in the region, offering local farmers a chance to acquaint themselves with the latest agricultural technologies.
During the event, the top-performing cattle owners in the state’s milk production competition were honoured. Karambir from Sunarian (Kurukshetra) achieved the first place with 28.62 kg of Murrah milk, followed by Babulal (17.08 kg) from Mundi (Rewari). Satbir Singh from Bahabalpur (Hisar) earned recognition for obtaining 23.68 kg milk from a Sahiwal cow, while Vineet Kamboj of Radaur (Yamunanagar) was honoured for obtaining 9.266 kg milk from a Belahi cow.
