Haryana CM Saini visits late IGP Y Puran Kumar’s house to offer condolences
Meets the officer’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, and other family members
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reached the official residence of late Inspector General of Police (IGP) Y Puran Kumar in Sector 24, Chandigarh, this afternoon to offer his condolences to the bereaved family. The Chief Minister, accompanied by his Chief Principal Secretary Rajesh Khullar, arrived around 12:30 pm and met the officer’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, and other family members.
Y Puran Kumar, a senior IPS officer, died by suicide on Tuesday afternoon, leaving the state police fraternity in deep shock. His wife, Amneet P Kumar — who was part of the Chief Minister’s delegation on an official visit to Japan — had cut short her trip and returned to Chandigarh on Wednesday afternoon after receiving the news.
Apart from the Chief Minister, several senior government functionaries and political leaders also visited the residence to pay their respects. Among those who called on the family were Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar, Home Secretary Sumita Misra, and Hansi MLA Vinod Bhayana. The atmosphere at the Sector 24 residence remained sombre as officers and colleagues from the police and civil administration continued to arrive through the day to express grief and solidarity with the family.
