The controversy erupted after DGP Singh, while addressing a press conference in Gurugram, stated that the type of vehicle a person owns reflects their mindset.
He said, “Those who own Thar vehicles perform stunts. Our ACP's son ran over someone with a Thar and later came to plead for it. We should prepare a list of police officers who own Thars; owning one shows a goon-like mindset.”
The DGP’s comments sparked a wave of reactions on social media. Former Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala posted old pictures of himself and Union Minister CM ML Khattar riding a Bullet, questioning if they too fell into the same category. He also shared images of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav in a Thar.
The remarks have led to a mix of reactions online. Some have praised the DGP for being bold and highlighting issues of reckless driving, while others have criticized the statement as an exaggeration and a reflection of class bias.
The incident has also ignited a political debate, as leaders seized the opportunity to comment on the DGP’s remarks amid ongoing discussions on police reforms.
